Printer Support

Standard Options

The Rees application uses standard windows drivers for printing and will automatically print to the default windows printer.

Each time you start the program it will always automatically select the printer that is set as the windows default. You can get a report to another printer by selecting {ALT+ F12} and choosing another printer from the list.

Printer Setup

If you wish to use a different DEFAULT printer every time you start the program add the word ‘REES’ to the windows printer name. (If you do not know how to do this please contact your computer technician).

Selected output from Rees can go to predefined printers. This is achieved by placing certain key words in the printer name. E.g. Invoices can be sent directly to an invoice printer by including the word Invoice in the printer name. Below is tabulated a list of options. Note that you can combine multiple keywords in a printer name. These key words are not case sensitive.

E.g. Invoice/Quote/Packing Slip

EXCEPT Sales Order Printer

You can default the S/O to a particular branch printer. All you have to do is go into option 2.7. Put the PART of the branch printer name in “Sales Order Printer” for each branch. When printing sales orders from 13.1 The lookup will be;

If a “Sales Order Printer” has been set up for the branch in 2.7 - see if it can be found on the Windows printer list. if yes - print to it - if no see if “SALES ORDER” printer exists else print to default printer.

Native Printer Modes

Windows normally handles all printing in graphics mode. This can be slow (particularly with Dot matrix printers). The spool files generated by windows can also become quite large (30Mb or more is not uncommon).

Rees has built in the ability to print in RAW mode. This bypasses the windows GDI printing system and prints to the printer in its native language. Printing in RAW mode is very much faster on Dot matrix printers and is the only way that these printers should be run with Rees. This raw mode also works for Laser and inkjet printers BUT it is recommended that this only be used for these printers if problems are encountered with the print format.

To tell Rees to use RAW mode you need to add a special character sequence to the windows printer name:

NOTE 1: The length of the windows printer name must be less than 31 characters.

NOTE 2: We only RECOMMEND that you try one of these alternatives if you are printing to a dot matrix printer OR the printing format is not fitting correctly on the page. For the majority of printers there should be no need to make any change.

Tested & compatible printers

Because of the huge number of printers on the market it is impossible for us to test all printers. Rees has been tested with the following printers.

Laser Printers
Hewlett Packard LaserJet 5
HP LaseJet 1200 Series
Brother Laser HL1060 & HL760

DeskJet & Inkjet
Hewlett Packard 600 & 800

Dot Matrix
Oki ML590
Epson LP570+
Panasonic KXP3200 Forms printer – ideal for point of sale

Supported Receipt Printers
Star brand 40 column printer
Star SP300 - add SP300 to printer name
Epson TML60 and compatible printers including Citizen CBM 253 (EPSON should be in printer name)

NOTE: If using older style of receipt printer with attached cash draw then printer driver name should include words RECEIPT/CASHDRAW EPSON

Supported Bar code Printers

1. Epson TML60 and compatible printers including Citizen CBM 253 (EPSON should be in printer name). NOTE: the Citizen 253 needs the keyword "BARCODE" in the printer name even if just normal Stock Labels are being printed.

2. Sato CX200. The windows printer name must be set to BARCODE CX200. (Special set up files are required in the REES\DATA folder called CX200.LAB to print barcodes (from option 2:11:25) and /or file CX200T.LAB to just print text price labels (from option 2:11:21) or delivery address labels. These files with the name CX200.FIL and CX200T.FIL are distributed with the REES support files and need to be copied from the REES folder to the DATA folder and then renamed).

3. Sato CX208 or CX400. The windows printer name must be set to BARCODE CX208. (Special set up files are required in the REES\DATA folder called CX200.LAB to print barcodes (from option 2:11:25) and /or file CX200S.LAB to just print text price labels (from option 2:11:21) or CX200T.LAB for delivery address labels from options 4:1 or 13:1 (requires the word “Address” in the printer driver name. These files with the name CX200.FIL and CX200T.FIL are distributed with the REES support files and need to be copied from the REES folder to the DATA folder and then renamed).

NOTE1: If the bar code does not fit on the label then it is possible to print a smaller bar code by replacing the characters ”B102” in the 4th line of the CX200.LAB file with “D101”.

NOTE2: The CX400 should be installed with the SATO printer driver NOT a generic text driver.

4. Zebra model TLP 2824. A special setup file is required in the REES DATA folder. This can either be called CX200.LAB or ZEBRA.LAB. The ZEBRA.LAB option allows for both a Sato and Zebra printer to be installed (if the file is called ZEBRA.LAB then the windows printer driver name MUST include the word ZEBRA). A sample setup file for printing on 55mm * 24mm labels is distributed with the REES program and can be found in the REES program folder as a file called ZEBRA.FIL. This file needs to be copied to the DATA folder and then renamed. Zebra TLP2844 Bar code printer is the same emulation as the TLP2824. The difference being, the 2824 is a 50mm width printer and the 2844 is up to 104mm.

5. Zebra model GK420t.

NOTE3: Other Zebra brand printers that support the EPL2 printer language should also work with Rees.

Note: The REES program will only print barcodes to a single single roll of labels.

Faxing from Rees

Faxing from REES - Requires the installation of a fax printer driver and fax software (See your hardware supplier). Selection of the installed 'Fax Driver' from your printer list will then enable you to fax any report. (Note: the fax software will request you to type in the recipients fax number. You can use the {CNTRL+V} keys to automatically Paste the client or creditors fax number from the currently displayed client or creditor ).

If you want the Printer to revert to your normal actual printer after printing a fax you must have the word (FAX) Including the brackets in the name of the printer. At the end of printing the fax Rees will automatically change the printer back to its original setting.

It is also possible to set the number of spaces tabbed by including (TAB:99) in the printer name for a fax, where 99 is the number of spaces tabbed.

Under Menu option 14.14, Page 5, there is an additional setting for fax printers.

For ‘FAX’ printers ADD Left TAB (5 Char)?

Enter No if you don’t want an offset.

Special Print Formats

It is possible to set up special print formats for documents. For example the standard INVOICE layout can be modified to meet individual company requirements.

These specialised formats can be written for the following documents:
